The Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department, a non profit 501(c)3 entity is under multi-year contracts with the City of Friendswood to provide fire, rescue, and emergency medical services for the citizens of Friendswood, Texas. This covers approximately 21 square miles and accounts for an estimated 42,000 residents.  In addition, the FVFD provides and receives mutual aid services from our neighboring communities including Pearland, League City, Alvin, Forest Bend and others.  The FVFD responds to over 3,600 calls a year including Fire and EMS.

The FVFD is staffed with 80-90 volunteers, 12 full time staff and around 40-50 part time employees to provide services. We currently operate four stations. The FVFD executive board consists of ten volunteers (who are active in the Fire and/or EMS divisions) that are elected to oversee all aspects of FVFD activities.  Emergency service is provided with three mobile intensive care capable ambulances, five fire engines, one ladder truck, three rescue boats, two utility terrain vehicles and multiple support vehicles.

The contracts with the City of Friendswood create the partnership whereby the FVFD provides services, and the City provides operational funding, capital purchases and use of the fire stations.  The FVFD also provides vehicle maintenance, basic station care, trained and competent personnel and public education and awareness.  The FVFD as a non-profit uses donations and grants to fund new programs, unique training, new tools and equipment, small purchases and many other items to improve the service level.

The FVFD reports through the Fire Marshalls Office and routinely works with City departments including the Police Department, City Dispatching Center (911), City Manager, Parks and Community Development, Finance, Public Works and Information Technology to provide safe, efficient and effective operations.
