Your Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department has been busy during these summer months while supporting many activities as well as continuing to train.
On Memorial Day we held the 3rd Annual FVFD Murph Challenge. This unique event involved 2 1-mile runs, pull-ups, push-ups, and squats. It is not only a humbling workout that allowed us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and suffering to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and gone before us, but it is also an annual fundraiser for the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Scholarship Foundation.
Most recently many members of your department participated in the July 2200 push-up challenge that brings attention to the staggering veteran suicide rate. This involved the individual completing 2200 push-ups during the month of July and we also use it as a platform to draw attention to the suicide rate among first responders that not only allowed us an opportunity to stay in shape, but more importantly we use this as an opportunity to have discussions around and about this topic.
Throughout the year members of your Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department participates in many challenging fundraiser events as a way to honor others as well improving their physical conditioning. |
